Job Description
Reporting into the External Relations & Government Relations Manager (West), you will provide external relations & government relations counsel and support to Shell Australia’s assets and projects on the West Coast helping to create business value by building positive relationships and opportunities externally. Key activities include the development and execution of a government relations plan for the Shell Australia (West) portfolio (which includes Shell operated and non-operated assets and projects), providing support on regulatory matters, and providing guidance, support and input into more general external relations issues and opportunities.

Key responsibilities can be summarised but are not limited to:
     Proactively partnering with the business and other areas of the external relations and government relations function to identify key risks and opportunities;
    Developing and delivering the government relations plan for the west portfolio;
    Providing advice to the business on the optimum ways to comply with regulatory requirements for assets and projects; and
    Working with the government relations team to identify, and advocate, improvements in the policy and regulatory environment.


Key regulatory focus areas include:
    Partnering with the business to meet the compliance and advocacy requirements for key activities under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act (OPGGS Act), including the stewardship of Shell West’s exploration, retention lease and production permits;
    Working with the business to secure environment plans and offshore project proposals;
    Partnering closely with the business to develop trusted relationships with key official and regulatory agencies; and 
    Providing external government relations support to exploration activity including opportunity identification and the development of acreage bids.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who can quickly identify risk and opportunity, can offer quality advice to the business, and can demonstrate a confident and trusted business partnering style.  It is important that the individual we appoint is proactive and has plenty of initiative, presents with demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships, and can work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

If you have a solid understanding of the relevant legislation, including the OPGGS Act, regulations and guidelines and the ability to think strategically and translate business objectives into multi-channel communication strategies/plans, then we would be keen to see your application.  Of interest will be your skills and ability to secure the trust of internal and external stakeholders through exemplary personal behaviours and high performance, coupled with a strong communications background, great written skills, and a track record of achievement in external affairs and/or media management.   Equally important is tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and the ability to manage and deliver against short deadlines.
